Another Fact or Fiction Discourse

Obviously, this is the continuation of my previous post about Brown’s Langdon novels. You see, The Da Vinci Code has been on the New York Times bestseller list for the longest time. Add to that is the fact that there are more than a dozen books written as a reaction to this particular novel. And, to note that I have mentioned about these phenomenal volumes for, let me count, one, two, three, four, five posts at least!

The truth is that I’m still quite confused about the fiasco that’s been brought about by this novel. The book and the story itself is not as conclusive as the other novel (Angels & Demons) but it does have its high points of interesting discussions. Again, there are lots of facts and conspiracy theories presented in this one. Below are a few of them.

“Man created it as a historical record of tumultuous times, and it has evolved through countless translations, additions, and revisions.” (Teabing)

Leigh Teabing, in the quote above, is talking about the Bible. He’s saying that it’s a big cover-up – a hoax – the grandest one in history. Of course, we know better than these scholars. What aroused my curiosity is the number of similarities of today’s “Christian” practices with pagan ones, some of them I’ve already mentioned in the previous post:

  1. Egyptian sun disks = halos of Catholic saints.
  2. Isis nursing her miraculously conceived son Horus = Virgin Mary nursing Baby Jesus.
  3. Other birthday celebrants for December 25: Osiris, Adonis, Dionysus.
  4. The pre-Christian god Mithras was called the Son of Godand the Light of the World.
  5. The newborn Krishna was presented with gold, frankincense, and myrrh
  6. Constantine ordered to change the sanctity of the Jewish Sabbath of Saturday to coincide with the pagan’s veneration day of the sun (that is, Sunday).

“We’ve only touched on Da Vinci today, but we’ll be seeing a lot more of him this semester.” (Langdon)

To coincide with Bob, I guess I’ll be talking about some other stuff about the Sacred Feminine, the Divine Proportion, the Priory of Sion, the Knights Templar, and other out of the box topics in my future posts. Pardon me for I’m really sleepy and I have to get up early tomorrow for the Sabbath services. And defy Constatine’s political crap.
